The next meeting of the GMATUC initiated Peterloo Movement for Democracy campaign will be on Tuesday 27th October at 7.00pm and will take place on Zoom.
Here are the details to join the meeting:
Additionally, below is a model motion which the officers of GMATUC hope supportive trades council delegates (and anyone else) will take back to their respective branches for discussion (and endorsement) as part of a broad campaign to commit both the trades unions and Labour, going forwards, to robust support for the civil and democratic reform of our political system in the interests of the people and especially in the first instance the introduction of PR in all elections as soon as possible.
The motion is currently formally supported by GMATUC, Bolton & District Trades Union Council & Bolton LG Unison Branch. Let us know if your Trades Council and/or union branch support the motion. E-mail: email@example.com
This Trades Council/Trades Union Branch/CLP (delete as appropriate) supports the call for the development of a programme of civil and democratic reform of our political system in the interests of the people and especially in the first instance the introduction of PR in all elections as soon as possible.
* Calls on all unions and Labour to commit themselves to this policy and for Labour to include the enactment of legislation to bring about PR in all elections as soon as possible as a manifesto commitment.
* Calls on all trades unions and the Labour Party to support along with the Electoral Reform Society and all other campaigners for civil and democratic reform, the convening of a standing national constitutional convention – the aim of which would be to develop a commonly agreed programme of political reforms prior to the next General Election, which everyone supportive of reform might unite around and campaign for, whatever Government is elected, to be introduced in addition to PR, as soon as possible in the interests of the people rather than the vested interests of the few.
* Resolves to support the GMATUC Peterloo Movement for Democracy’s efforts in pursuance of the above by making a donation/ Inviting a speaker (delete as appropriate) and helping to promote and take part in its activities wherever possible.
